"You get what you pay for" couldn't be more accurate in the LED Space

There is a wide array of price ranges when shopping for a new LED fixtures. How are you supposed to know if what you are buying is a quality product or a product that will fail within the first year?

Ask yourself the following 4 questions prior to making your selection:

1. Is this a quality driver?

2. Are they using a quality LED chip?

3. Does the fixture have adequate aluminum for the heat sync?

4. Is the warranty based on hours of burn time?

Big box stores and distributors are finding more and more ways to cut costs when sourcing LED fixtures in China by reducing quality components in order to achieve the lowest possible selling prices. These suppliers accomplish this by utilizing low-end drivers, third tier LED chips and removing aluminum from the fixture. All three of these components diminish the quality of what you are buying, effecting that warranty and performance. Contractors are now getting tired of going back to a completed job due to failing lights.

While the Driver serves as the heart of the LED fixture, the Heat Sync is just as important. A quality LED fixture will contain an aluminum housing around the fixture that absorbs the heat keeping the heart cool. Keeping the heart cool increases the life span of your light, allowing 50,000 hours of burn time. A compatible less expensive LED product will have little to no aluminum even being replaced by plastics made to look like aluminum. These products are usually extremely lightweight and will fail within the first few months of use.
